The Greater Prince William Area (GPWA) includes Prince William County, Manassas City, and Manassas Park. More than 17% of GPWA's 500,000 population lack health insurance and 7% are living in poverty. The most recent studies from the CDC show that almost half of all adults in the U.S. have a chronic illness, and one in four adults has two or more chronic health conditions. Recent surveys show that chronic diseases are a growing epidemic accounting for seven of the top-ten causes of death.
The PWAFC treats more than 2,600 patients with more than 20,000 encounters annually. Of the population we treat, 90% have at least one chronic disease. All of our patients lack health insurance, live in the GPWA, and are at or below 125% of the federal poverty level. For example, a family of three that we see will make less than $25,000 annually. Through the donations and support our clinic receives, we are able to care for a population that would otherwise have no access at all to affordable healthcare.
